Life has a funny way of working out. Through a change in my hubby’s employment we happened to acquire a business in our town. Immediately I thought perfect! Let’s do a murder mystery! It took some time for hubby to buy in; we went to one just to see what they were all about, and then I had the go ahead. I decided to write my own play tailored to our venue. I came up with a story called Corporate Chaos, a successful company banquet interrupted by an unfortunate incident. Detectives happen to show up and question dinner guests to unravel the situation. I hope to get that script formatted for listing in the near future.
My more recent writing project is a murder mystery dinner theater script set against the backdrop of the annual County Fair. The victim? Lemmie Tellue, a local businessman with a finger in every funnel cake and a secret behind every prize-booth curtain.
Lemmie was a man of many words—most of them “contractual”—but his luck finally ran out somewhere between the Tilt-A-Whirl and the prize-winning poultry. Now, the fairgrounds are a crime scene, and the killer is hiding in a crowd of carnies, clodhoppers, and competitors.
Why This Story?
A photograph I took of my husband happened to have a very stern disgruntled look. It was such an interesting angle and it just clicked in my weird brain that, hey, that’d be a great funeral picture. (Don’t judge me). From there I started to put together the story of Lemmie’s passing and the show just kind of wrote itself. Funny thing was, I had it mostly written before I figured out who the culprit was.
The Lemmie Out of Here script and dinner theater play is available on EBay for purchase.
